City of Bristol close in on clean sweep of Team events

City of Bristol SC narrowly beat rivals Rushmoor Synchro in the first team event of day two at the ASA National Synchronised Swimming Championships.

In a repeat of last year’s senior championship results, City of Bristol took the Technical Team title with 66.9926 points ahead of Rushmoor’s 65.5428.

And while Bristol swimmer Bryony Dale conceded the team had performed the routine better in the training pool, she admitted it was the final results which was most important.

“It was actually slightly weaker than we’d hoped,” said Dale, who competed in the team that scored 64.2143 12 months ago.

“Some of the elements weren’t as precise as we’d done in practice. But overall it was a good swim with tight patterns and a good lift.”

Charlotte Davis added: “We did this routine last year at Champs and we won it last year. We wanted to really step it up this year to hold on to our title and we did that so we’re proud of that.”

Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex

Bristol made their intentions clear from the start with an excellent throw and great barracuda, performing to Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex.

Making good use of the pool the routine, they included a high number of formations and great synchronisation. A highly energetic finale cemented their second Team win of the competition, having lifted the Free Combination title with a memorable routine on the opening day in Gloucester.

Not to be outdone, Rushmoor, who came third in the Team Combination yesterday, gave a strong performance with excellent formations and good synchronisation, improving on last year’s score of 63.6136.

City of Salford also gave a confident performance to secure the bronze medal with 59.8897. Swimming to Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk, the team of seven athletes produced a tidy routine with a great airborne split and good change of formation.
