Mixed Duet synchro gold for Great Britain at FINA World Masters Championships

Great Britain won synchronised swimming gold in the Technical Mixed Duet at the FINA World Masters Championships in South Korea.

Out to Swim’s Samuel Weinberg and Tal Link combined to win Britain’s first gold of the competition.

They scored an overall total of 54.28 which was split into 17.4 for execution, 16.4 for overall impression and 20.48 for elements.

Meanwhile, Rushmoor duo Andrea Holland and Carolyn Wilson finished on top in the Technical Duet 60-69 age group.

They scored 58.8267 for their routine at Gwangju’s Yeomju Gymnasium to win by 3.2134 points.

The pair beat USA’s Nancy Weiman and Christine Schroeder, who took silver with a score of 55.6133, while Japan’s Makiko Morota and Satomi Nakayama finished in third on 46.4467.

That put them top of the combined standings, with the overall winner crowned after the Free Duet.

Fourth in solo for Holland and Boitsidis

Meanwhile, Holland and Wilson also competed in the Technical Solo 60-69 age group.

Holland just missed out on a podium place as she finished in fourth spot with a total of 58.4000 – 1.8000 behind Australia’s Donella Freeman.

Wilson was seventh on 57.5533 points.

Both swimmers will be hoping to improve on those positions when they compete in the Free Solo on Thursday 8 August.

Angela Boitsidis of Reading Royals also narrowly missed out on a medal as she took fourth spot in the Technical Solo 50-59 age group with a score of 61.9000.

She was 1.7600 behind Italy’s Michela Barbini, who took the gold medal, on 63.6600, while Germany’s Silk Hohlstein-Terwesten was second (62.8734) and France’s Evelyne Burger won the bronze (62.7400).

Boitsidis will also compete in the Free Solo competition on Thursday.
