Rushmoor secure 15-18 Yrs Team title for third straight year

Rushmoor closed the Swim England National Age Group Championships 2017 with a dominant victory in the 15-18 Yrs Team event.

The Hampshire club have ruled the roost in the top age group in recent years, winning the Team title in both 2015 and 2016.

And they maintained their grip on the crown with a dramatic and haunting performance to music from Saw and Dead Silence.

They scored 69.4333 for their horror-themed free routine, finishing more than eight points clear of the field on 133.5628.

The result saw Solo silver medallist Danielle Cooper pick up the Shacklock Trophy for the most points overall from the Solo, Duet and Team events.

It also brought second medals for Celina Dembinska-Kenner, Rosie Gunn and Victoria Usher, who all reached the podium in the Duet.

There was quite a lot of pressure

“This is the third year we’ve won it in a row so there was quite a lot of pressure going into it,” said Rushmoor swimmer Zoe James, who was part of all three gold medal-winning teams.

“We were quite pleased with our swim. We were hoping to get to 70 and we were just under but we’re really happy that we finished eight points ahead of everyone else and proud of that.”

Dembinska-Kenner added: “It’s the last nationals for a few of us so it’s really nice to end on a high.

“We’ve brought a few new swimmers in so it’s not easy training them into our team but we’re really proud and really happy with how we’ve done.

“Everyone really wants to train hard which is nice because when you get to competitions, you know you’re all together with the same mindset.”

Reading Royals bring curtain down on successful weekend

Reading Royals brought the curtain down on a successful weekend with silver while last year’s runners-up City of Bristol won bronze.

Royals had already defended their titles in both the 12 & Under and 13 – 15 Yrs age groups and had their sights set on a remarkable triple crown.

And while they couldn’t match the defending champions, the Royals quartet – coached by double Olympian Katie Clark – impressed with their routine to the theme from The Transformers.

The Berkshire club scored 64.1000, keeping their noses narrowly ahead of Bristol as they finished on 125.2252 overall.

Bristol also broke 64 points for their routine, finishing on 125.0788 after their routine scored 64.0333.
