Technical team set personal best as they impress at world junior championships

Great Britain’s young synchronised swimmers set a new personal best technical team score to finish a creditable 12th at the world junior championships.

The team of Millicent Costello, Cerys Larsen, Daisy Rushton, Abigail Taylor, Greta Hampson, Daniella Lloyd, Harriette Smith and Victoria Usher swam 19th out of the 20 nations competing in Budapest, Hungary.

They finished with a total of 78.0997 points as they improved their recent score at the junior Europeans by two marks, where they finished on 76.5742.

Tremendous achievement

Karen Thorpe, Swim England’s synchronised swimming manager, said: “I couldn’t be more proud of our athletes.

“They remained calm, holding their nerve to put on the best performance I have seen from them to date. It was worth the wait.

“It’s a tremendous achievement and will stand us in good stead ahead of the free team preliminaries.”

Russia claimed the technical team gold medal with a score of 92.7347, with Ukraine second (90.3331) and Japan third (89.0176).
