Superb silver for Great Britain at FINA Artistic Swimming World Series

Great Britain won a superb silver on the final day of the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series in Paris.

The team of Kate Shortman, Isabelle Thorpe, Daniella Lloyd, Victoria Usher, Daisy Rushton, Cerys Hughes, Greta Hampson, Ilaria Brandimarte, Millicent Costello and Cerys Larsen produced the best result of their international career so far in the free combination final.

They swam the spider-themed routine they performed at the Glasgow European Championships last August.

And they improved on that display to score a fantastic 81.6667 points to take second spot ahead of Israel (81.2333).

Brazil were 1.7666 points clear of the British team to win the gold medal at the Aquatic Centre Maurice Thorez in the Fraench capital.

Karen Thorpe, Swim England Talent Manager for Synchro, was ecstatic with their performance.

She said: “Now that was a surprise!

“I thought we would be fighting for a medal but was hoping for third so I’m completely thrilled they got a silver.”

It proved to be the highlight of a fantastic weekend for the British team.

Shortman and Thorpe finished fifth in the technical duet on the opening day of the competition, while Shortman then took fourth spot in the solo free final.

In the team free final, Great Britain finished fifth after scoring 80.3333 for their African tribal-themed routine.
