Loya Cenkci first Aquavision swimmer to win Colin Lushington Memorial Trophy
April 26, 2025Aquavision’s Loya Cenkci claimed both the junior and senior national titles alongside a prestigious accolade, while City of Salford were superior in the team events on day one of the GoCardless Swim England Artistic Swimming National Championships 2025.
The opening event of the competition, the Technical Solo, featured a total of 17 athletes including the regaining national champion, Rugby Artistic Swimming Club’s Eve Young.
After scoring an impressive 92.9500 for artistic impression and 119.7417 for elements, it was Cenkci who topped the podium with a total score of 212.6917 to receive two golds.
That result also saw the Aquavision star presented with the Colin Lushington Memorial Trophy – making her the first swimmer from her club to win the award.
Young was the only other swimmer to break the 200-point barrier on her way to winning junior and senior silver, with City of Preston’s Rhea Howard winning senior bronze and the junior bronze medal went to City of Bristol’s Katherine Boitsidis.
However, Young later joined forces with her Great Britain teammate Robyn Swatman to take the Technical Duet event by storm as the pair represented their respective clubs.
The remaining events, the Acrobatic Team and Free Team, were both claimed by North West side, City of Salford.
Following on from their first ever Free Team national title in 2024, City of Salford were able to retain the honour this time around whilst adding the Acrobatic Team title to their collection.
The acrobatic event made its debut at the National Championships last year, the same year it also made its Olympic debut in Paris, with Reading Royals crowned the inaugural champions.
This time around it was City of Salford who led the way, followed by the City of Preston and Gateshead respectively.
