Back-to-back Olympics the goal for Kate Shortman and Isabelle Thorpe in Doha

Great Britain’s artistic swimming duet of Kate Shortman and Isabelle Thorpe are looking to continue their dreams of an Olympic medal by securing qualification for Paris 2024 at the 2024 World Championships in Doha.

The Bristol-based duo head to their fifth World Championships in Qatar looking for more success after Shortman’s historic bronze in the Free Solo event in Japan last year.

Following that bronze medal Shortman said that it was ‘crazy step in the right direction for Great Britain’ and Olympic qualification for Paris will further cement GB’s place on the artistic swimming map.

The pair are coming off an historic season for the sport which also saw them and the mixed duet of Ranjuo Tomblin and Beatrice Crass earn the nation’s first ever artistic swimming medals at the European Games.

Tomblin and Crass won two mixed duet bronze’s before Shortman and Thorpe won the first medal for a British duet in 30 years in Poland.

This time round Shortman and Thorpe are focussing solely on the duet events, competing in both free and technical competition at the Aspire Dome in Qatar.

They begin with the technical preliminary round on Friday where they’ll be aiming to be back in the pool for the final on Monday 5 February.

Just two days later the free duet gets underway with the prelims taking place just a day before the final on Thursday 8 February.

The scores from both events will be combined as they look to come away with one of the final spots not taken by duets who have already qualified through the team events or have won the five continental Championships.
