Alton and District Swimming Club (ADSC) in Hampshire is looking for an enthusiastic part-time Assistant Swimming Coach and Learn to Swim Teacher to join our community team to help teach the next generation of swimmers!

ADSC is a thriving, community-focused club with a rich history of developing swimmers from local learners to international-level competitors. 

The Role

Reports to: ADSC Head Coach

Hours: 12+ hours per week, Part-time, Permanent

Breakdown: 9 hours poolside coaching, 3 hours admin, term times only.

Weekend swim meet cover min 2x per year. More hours available for cover.

Start Date: September 2026

Status: Self-employed (responsible for own tax and National Insurance, to invoice the club for hours)

Locations: Mainly Alton, also Bordon and Petersfield, various locations

Hours: Varied. Please see below hours and squad age groups to be coached.

Commitment: Minimum 12 months expected commitment and 3 months notice period. Probation period of 3 months

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for the management of the Academy (learning) and Development Squads, of 5 - 10 yo, evaluating swimmers through coaches and personally, and progressing swimmers through the club as they develop.
  • Ability to coach competitive starts and take land training sessions.
  • Paid support for swimming meets at various weekends will also be required.
  • Deliver high-quality coaching and teaching sessions to swimmers of a variety of ages, from 5-75 years, following the Swim England framework.
  • Deliver the Head Coach’s workouts and plan, checking vision and technical details, and feeding back on effectiveness and suitability.
  • Create and deliver your own workouts to swimmers based on the annual plan.
  • Develop and support young coaches and helpers.
  • Foster a positive, motivated, and fun training environment.
  • Liaise with Parents on the progress of their children.
  • Welcome and evaluate new swimmers.
  • Support the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) of swimmers, focusing on technique across all four strokes.
  • Maintain professional standards and adhere to the club’s and coach’s Code of Conduct.

Person Specification:

  • Proven experience in teaching younger swimmers how to swim all strokes and disciplines. 
  • Able to work autonomously, having care and understanding of younger swimmers alongside a desire to help them progress. 
  • Excellent communication skills, positive attitude, reliability, and a genuine passion for swimmers and their development.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Ideally hold a Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate and Level 2 Teaching Award. 
  • CPD for competitive starts

Safeguarding: Must have a valid Swim England Safeguarding in Aquatics certificate

Vetting: A current Enhanced DBS check is mandatory.

Your schedule will cover the following training times in the week:

  • Mondays
    • At Alton
    • 18:00 - 20:30
    • 10 years old - Masters
    • Developing - Coaching

 

  • Wednesdays
    • At Alton
    • 18:00 - 21:00
    • 10 years old - Masters
    • Developing - Coaching

 

  • Sundays
    • At Alton
    • 16:00 - 18:00
    • 5 - 10 years old
    • Learners - Teaching

ADSC is a community club, and we are committed to your growth as a coach. ADSC will provide developmental support and actively encourage continuing professional development through the Swim England-provided Institute of Swimming. We also can provide a varied level of support for coaches to deliver a prepared workout, through to developing their own workouts.  We may also provide part funding, a discount or a bursary for further developing your coaching qualifications for the right candidate. In return for this provision, the successful applicant will agree to remain with the club as a coach for a set period (usually 1 year) following the completion of their training.
