Melton Mowbray Swimming Club are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Head Coach, on a self-employed, part-time basis, to lead our coaching team and swimmers. Support available to achieve Senior Coach qualifications
Founded in 1964, Melton Mowbray Swimming Club has a proud community ethos and a dedicated team of volunteers, coaches and committee members. We have a growing membership of over 140 swimmers across Junior to Masters squads. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious coach who believes every swimmer matters and who can combine strategic leadership, technical expertise and open communication to help members achieve their goals.
The role:
- Prepare the Club’s Annual Plan and help shape the club’s coaching direction.
- Design and deliver progressive training plans for all squads across the annual cycle.
- Co-ordinate the annual competition calendar.
- Develop swimmer performance across all squads, with a clear pathway from foundation through to senior performance level.
- Lead, mentor and encourage the coaching team, supporting a collaborative and positive coaching culture.
- Engage with swimmers, families, committee members and volunteers as a welcoming ambassador for the club.
- Provide technical feedback, stroke correction and performance analysis through direct coaching and workshops.
- Uphold club policies, including Swim England Wavepower and safeguarding standards, while promoting an inclusive environment for all members.
Training location: Waterfield Leisure Centre, Melton Mowbray.
Current Head Coach direct training hours: Approx 8 hours a week over 3 evenings. No morning sessions. Some flexibility will be needed to support with coach holidays or illness cover. The role also requires attendance at selected league galas, targeted open meets and championship events on a volunteer basis (mileage allowance paid).
What we’re looking for:
- Minimum Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate/ASA Level 2 Coaching Award, with relevant coaching experience.
- Experience delivering high-quality, engaging sessions that motivate swimmers and support their growth.
- Strong technical knowledge and a skills-focused coaching approach.
- Excellent communication, organisation and time-management skills.
- The ability to lead, motivate and encourage swimmers, coaches and volunteers.
- A strong commitment to swimmer welfare, inclusivity and a positive club culture.
- Willingness to support wider club events and activities.
The Club will actively support candidates who wish to work towards Senior Coach qualifications.
