 Ealing Swimming Club (ESC) in West London is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Lead House Coach to oversee a major House Programme, develop swimmers, support staff, and identify athletes for progression into competitive squads within a leading UK swimming club.

ESC delivers a comprehensive aquatics programme supporting swimmers at every stage of their journey, from learn-to-swim and development squads through to regional, national and international competition. Alongside competitive swimming, the club also offers masters swimming, disability swimming and water polo programmes.

The Lead House Coach is responsible for the coaching, development and day-to-day leadership of the Northolt House Programme.

This role combines hands-on coaching with programme leadership, ensuring swimmers receive high-quality teaching and coaching while supporting their progression through the club's development pathway. The successful candidate will lead and develop the House coaching team, oversee programme delivery and work closely with the Head Coach and squad coaching team to identify and develop future squad swimmers. The role is primarily a management one with administrative duties combined with some coaching.  

The Lead House Coach will play a key role in creating a positive, engaging and swimmer-centred environment that supports athlete development, retention and long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

Coaching and Swimmer Development:

  • Lead the coaching and development of swimmers within the Northolt House Programme.
  • Plan and oversee the delivery of a progressive teaching and coaching programme.
  • Work closely with House teachers and coaches to ensure consistent delivery standards.
  • Identify and support swimmers with the potential to progress through the club pathway.
  • Work collaboratively with the squad coaching team to facilitate swimmer transitions into squad programmes.
  • Deliver teaching and coaching sessions where required.
  • Monitor swimmer progression and oversee assessment processes.
  • Maintain accurate swimmer records, assessments and attendance registers.

Programme Leadership:

  • Lead the day-to-day operation of the Northolt House Programme.
  • Manage, support and develop the House coaching and teaching team.
  • Create and manage staff rotas to ensure effective programme delivery.
  • Approve timesheets and monitor staffing requirements.
  • Conduct regular House staff meetings and ensure effective communication across the programme.
  • Review and report on programme performance and implement improvements where appropriate.
  • Ensure the programme is delivered in line with club objectives and standards.

Competition and Pathway Development:

  • Develop and implement a House competition programme aligned with club objectives.
  • Coordinate competition entries and ensure appropriate coaching cover is in place.
  • Support swimmers and parents throughout the competition pathway.
  • Work closely with the squad coaching team to support swimmer progression.
  • Contribute to the club's wider athlete development strategy and pathway planning.

Administration and Communication:

  • Build positive and professional relationships with swimmers, parents and staff.
  • Communicate programme updates, competition information and key announcements effectively.
  • Liaise with the club's central administration and membership teams as required.
  • Notify the membership team of new starters, leavers and membership changes.
  • Support the annual planning and budgeting process.
  • Ensure programme information, calendars and term dates are communicated effectively.
  • Maintain accurate programme information and updates across club communication platforms.

Professional Development:

  • Attend Lead House Coach meetings and relevant club meetings.
  • Participate in the club's appraisal process.
  • Attend competitions, events and meetings as required.
  • Undertake relevant continuing professional development and training.
  • Maintain compliance with all Swim England, safeguarding and club requirements.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate/ASA Level 2 Coaching Award and SEQ Level 2 SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming Qualification or ASA Level 2 Award in Teaching Aquatics (QCF) (or equivalents).
  • Minimum of two years' teaching and/or coaching experience.
  • Experience leading or supervising coaching teams.
  • Strong understanding of swimmer development and progression.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with swimmers, parents & coaches
  • Ability to motivate and develop both swimmers and staff.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Competent in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of Swim England structures and governance.
  • Current safeguarding certification.

Desirable:

  • Experience managing a learn-to-swim or development programme.
  • Experience of workforce planning and staff management.
  • Understanding of athlete pathway development and talent identification.
  • Experience supporting swimmers at competitions and events.
  • Team Manager qualification.

Working Pattern

This is a part-time PAYE position.

The successful candidate will be expected to attend the following sessions:

  • Monday 19:00-21:30 – Northolt Leisure Centre
  • Thursday 19:00-21:30 – Northolt Leisure Centre
  • Friday 19:00-21:00 – Northolt Leisure Centre
  • Sunday 16:30-18:30 – Northolt Leisure Centre

The role also includes the planning, preparation and administrative responsibilities required to successfully lead the Northolt House Programme.

Attendance at meetings, competitions and other club activities may occasionally be required outside normal programme hours.

Additional swimming teaching opportunities may be available for candidates seeking further hours.
