Ealing Swimming Club (ESC) in West London is seeking an experienced Performance Pathway Coach to develop talented young swimmers and support their progression through our high-performance pathway.
ESC, one of the UK's leading competitive swimming clubs, delivers a comprehensive aquatics programme, supporting swimmers at every stage of their journey, from learn-to-swim and development squads through to regional, national and international competition. Alongside competitive swimming, the club offers masters swimming, disability swimming and water polo programmes.
The Performance Pathway Coach will be responsible for the development of swimmers within the club's junior performance pathway, delivering high-quality coaching, supporting athlete progression, and contributing to the wider performance programme.
Working closely with the Head Coach, Programme Manager and Lead House Coaches, the successful candidate will help identify, develop and retain talented swimmers, ensuring a consistent and effective pathway from entry-level squad participation through to performance-level training.
Reports to: Head Coach
Key Responsibilities:
Coaching and Athlete Development:
- Develop and deliver training programmes for designated junior performance squads in collaboration with the Head Coach.
- Contribute to the planning and implementation of the club's performance pathway programme.
- Monitor swimmer development and progression against agreed performance objectives.
- Maintain accurate attendance, performance and athlete development records.
- Provide technical coaching that supports long-term athlete development and performance progression.
- Promote a positive, inclusive and high-performance training environment.
Competition and Camps:
- Implement competition plans agreed with the Head Coach.
- Support team selection processes where required.
- Attend designated competitions, galas and training camps within the UK and internationally.
- Produce post-competition reviews and performance reports.
- Support swimmers and parents throughout the competition cycle.
Pathway Development:
- Lead and coordinate the transition process from House Programme to Squad Programme.
- Work collaboratively with Lead House Coaches to identify and support emerging talent.
- Maintain regular engagement with House Programme sites and coaching teams.
- Produce quarterly pathway and talent development reports for the Head Coach.
- Contribute to the continuous review and improvement of the club's athlete development pathway.
Communication and Professional Standards:
- Build positive and professional relationships with swimmers, parents, coaches and volunteers.
- Attend coaching meetings and relevant club events.
- Undertake continuing professional development relevant to the role.
- Comply with all Swim England, club safeguarding and welfare policies.
- Support other squad sessions and coaching activities when required.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Swim England Senior Swimming Coach Certificate/ASA Level 3 Coaching Award (or equivalent).
- Experience coaching competitive swimmers within a club performance environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of swimming and athlete development.
- Good understanding of Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Competent in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a coaching team.
- Enhanced DBS check.
- Current Safeguarding and Protecting Children certification.
- Knowledge of Swim England structures and governance.
Desirable:
- Experience of working within a recognised performance pathway programme.
- Experience supporting swimmers at regional or national level competition.
- Team Manager qualification.
- Strength and Conditioning qualification.
- Understanding of talent identification and athlete progression frameworks.
Working Pattern
The successful candidate will be expected to attend the following sessions:
- Monday 05:15-07:00 – Northolt Leisure Centre
- Monday 19:00-20:30 – Dormers Wells
- Tuesday 19:00-20:30 – Dormers Wells
- Wednesday 19:00-20:30 – Dormers Wells
- Thursday 05:15-07:00 – Acton Leisure Centre
- Friday 05:15-07:00 – Northolt Leisure Centre
- Friday 18:15-19:45 – Dormers Wells
- Saturday 06:00-08:00 – Northolt Leisure Centre
Attendance at competitions, training camps and land-based training sessions will also be required.
