The national qualification for coaching open water swimming has been backed by all four home countries; Swim England, Swim Wales, Swim Ireland and Scottish Swimming.

Following this support, the ASA Level 2 Award in Coaching Open Water Swimming is now known as British Open Water Swimming.

The newly-named course – which remains endorsed by CIMSPA – gives coaches the skills needed to effectively prepare, deliver, and evaluate a series of open water training sessions.

Rebecca Cox, Institute of Swimming managing director, said:

“It is brilliant to have all the home countries working together and showing their support for this fantastic qualification.

“With open water swimming growing in popularity, it’s important that we are providing high-quality courses that allow coaches to meet this demand and develop the sport further.”

The course is aimed at swimming coaches or triathlon coaches who want to acquire specialist knowledge delivering open water swimming sessions to a range of participants.

Level 2 swimming teachers are also welcome to attend the course if they have experience of swimming in an open water environment.
