FINA team up with the Institute of Swimming

Courses developed by the Institute of Swimming and the Swim England Talent Team to train coaches are to be delivered around the world thanks to a new partnership.

The International Swimming Federation FINA has teamed up with the Institute of Swimming in a bid to increase the number of certified coaches across the globe.

Three new FINA courses have been adapted from the Swim England Coaching Certificates and will be distributed under the FINA Learning Platform.

The FINA Learning Platform

The FINA Learning Platform is an online tool which the entire aquatics community can access on computers or mobile devices.

Its aim is to provide a platform for all its National Member Federations to educate coaches, officials and administrators. They hope to reach more than 10,000 users by the end of 2020, with a particular emphasis on underdeveloped countries.

The Institute of Swimming has provided e-content and resources for the courses and Swim England Coaching Certificates will also be FINA endorsed.

Becky Cox, Institute of Swimming’s managing director, said: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with FINA.

“Seeing our high-quality courses being delivered around the world further validates our position as leading in aquatics training for both teachers and coaches.

“We’re proud of the standards we set and the fact that such a well-respected organisation such as FINA has called on the Institute of Swimming to help develop this certification speaks volumes about the existing courses we offer to swimming coaches in the UK.”

A spokesperson for FINA said:

“For this specific programme, FINA has partnered with the renowned Institute of Swimming.

“Through this programme, all the participants will have access to up-to-date coaching information and best practices. This will increase the number of certified coaches and enhance the quality of the existing ones.”
