Industry-first qualification supports sector needs and helps teachers take the next step in their career

Swim England Qualifications have launched their SEQ Level 3 Swim Coordinator qualification which is an industry first and been produced collaboratively with the swimming sector. It has been designed to develop leadership skills, support business needs, improve the customer experience and maximise pool performance.

The programme is relevant to the current operating environment and gets the candidates to utilise working case studies from their organisation, creating solutions to implement immediately. This allows the course to adapt to the needs of the industry, and provide a return on investment before the coordinators have even completed their qualification.

Fiona Grant, Swim England Qualifications Quality Assurance Manager, said:

“We’ve listened closely to the sector and we’re delighted to be meeting their needs by becoming the first in the industry to launch this type of qualification.

The Level 3 Swim Coordinator qualification has been developed collaboratively by key stakeholders from the swimming sector.

Because of this, the knowledge, skills and understanding gained will provide a better opportunity for progression into employment.

The qualification covers the wide range of tasks associated with the role of a swim coordinator and develops the individual’s knowledge, skills and understanding, enabling them to coordinate the safe delivery of high-quality swimming programmes.”

The course includes modules on:

  • Understanding legal requirements and how they relate to coordinating swimming programmes.
  • Producing a business improvement plan and identifying opportunities which maximise revenue and enhances the customer experience.
  • Monitoring, evaluating and improving swimming programmes.
  • Developing and motivating your workforce.
  • Understanding effective approaches for communicating with stakeholders.

The Institute of Swimming is starting their first course this August for partners who want to upskill current members of their team, supporting them to reactivate their swim programme and thrive after lockdown. All places for this first course have already been reserved but more opportunities will be available over the coming months,
