The academy allows aspiring teachers to receive all their training for only £79, compared to the usual cost of over £1,000. It includes mentoring to support your development, and you’ll be matched with one of the employers taking part in this local recruitment academy. You don’t need any prior qualifications to apply as you will be supported through your training, although we are accepting applications from those who are halfway through their swimming teacher training or already have their level 1 or 2 qualifications.
Successful applicants will complete their SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) and Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualifications and be supported through their training journey with Institute of Swimming Membership which includes over £100 worth of free e-learning. To help them develop, trainees will spend some time volunteering and get support from a mentor to ensure they have the necessary experience for the role and are ready to hit the poolside well equipped to teach.
Teaching swimming is an active and rewarding role. Work hours are generally part-time and there are a variety of working hours available across weekdays and weekends. For these roles, there may be the opportunity to work for the following operators across their local leisure centres;
Once qualified successful trainees will be employed as paid swimming teachers by the operator.
The programme will follow a two-phased recruitment.
For phase 1 we strongly encourage applications from those who already hold a SEQ L1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification and/or have extensive teaching/coaching/swimming experience. Please note: applicants who are not suitable for phase 1 will be considered for the phase 2 programme.
Phase 1:

Interviews: 7th & 8th December 2021
Meet & greet: w/c 13th December 2021.
Phase 2:
Applications close: 31st January 2022
Interviews: 8th & 9th February 2022
Meet & greet: w/c 14th February 2022.
Training courses will take place locally, ideally at your sponsor operator’s venue. Exact dates/times/venues will be confirmed if successful at shortlist stage, however please see below a guide to training timelines.
Phase 1:
Level 2 Course: January 2022
Phase 2:
Level 1 Course: March 2022
Level 2 Course: April 2022
Successful candidates will be asked to commit to some volunteer hours to support their training programme, days and times will be discussed at meet and greet.
