Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) - SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment only route which you can take to gain the SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification if you already possess the skills and knowledge needed. You will be asked to provide relevant and sufficient evidence to show that you meet the criteria laid out in the qualification specification. To ensure RPL is for you please ensure you read all of the information below as no refunds are given on this programme.

Who is RPL designed for?

Anyone who already has experience assisting swimming lessons using the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme and can provide evidence of meeting the qualification specification. During the RPL programme, there is no tutor support or learning resources provided and you must be able to provide the necessary evidence without support.

What Evidence will I need to submit?

As part of your RPL programme you will be required to submit the following evidence:

  • Theoretical based questions - There are 17 theoretical questions which you must answer correctly in order to be signed off by your assessor.
  • Observation record - You will be required to submit video evidence showing you assisting at least 2 x 30 minute swimming lessons. It is your responsibility to identify which parts of each lesson meet the criteria laid out in the observation record.
  • Review record - You will be required to successfully complete three sections reviewing various elements of your assisting.

RPL Format

Those who decide to join the RPL programme will have to meet the following deadlines:

  • On the start date of the programme, shown in the itinerary below, you will be given access to your online assessment materials and you will have 4 weeks to submit all the required evidence. The assessment will consist of: completed theoretical questions, written work that is submitted via Google Classroom and the submission of video evidence. The video evidence will need to show you assisting participants so please make sure you have their permission before booking onto this RPL programme.
  • Your assessor will then mark your work and provide feedback within 2 weeks.
  • Based on the feedback given you will then have 2 weeks to make any necessary amendments and resubmit your evidence to the assessor.
  • Your assessor will mark your resubmission within 1 week and confirm the results of your RPL programme.

You must be at least 16 years of age at the start of the course.

You must have one of the following qualifications:

You will have experience of working as an assistant swimming teacher and must have a good level of English, with both written and verbal communication skills.
