Teaching Swimming to Learners with Learning Disabilities

This CPD is designed to help non-specialist Swimming Teachers and Assistants with the knowledge of how they can support Neurodiverse learners within their swimming lessons. It looks at common barriers to learning, explains the conditions and syndromes and gives strategies for managing the behaviour.

This is a CIMSPA Endorsed CPD and you will gain 1.5 points for attending.

Content

During this session you will learn about:

  • Key characteristics of learning difficulties and learning disabilities that can impact on a participant’s ability to learn to swim
  • How to support the individual needs of the participant in group lessons
  • The challenges a swimmer may face when attending swimming lessons
  • How to effectively communicate with the participant, parents/guardians, level 1 teaching assistant
  • How to work effectively with a Level 1 Swimming Assistant
  • What makes a good teacher of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
