Teaching Swimming to Learners with Physical and Sensory Impairments

This CPD is designed to help non-specialist Swimming Teachers and Assistants with the knowledge of how they can support learners with physical and/or sensory impairments within their swimming lessons. It looks at common barriers and explains adaptations that can be made.

Content

During this session, you will learn about:

  • Additional needs swimmers with a physical and/or sensory impairment(s) may have in order to learn to swim.
  • What a physical impairment is.
  • What a sensory impairment is.
  • Considering individual needs.
  • Using your existing knowledge when teaching an impaired swimmer (e.g. including BLABT).
  • Assessing swimmers’ needs.
