Greenwich Royals Swimming Club (GRSC) based in south-east London is looking for a conscientious, passionate and motivated swimming Lead Squad Coach to join our dedicated coaching team. This role would be an ideal opportunity for an aspiring coach who currently holds a Swim England Swimming Coach or Senior Swimming Coach Certificate or ASA Level 2 or 3 Coaching Award. Successful applicants should have good communication skills, and the ability to work within a team.

GRSC is a family-friendly and community-based competitive swimming club with swimmers ranging from Learn To Swim up to a successful Masters squad with recent success at County, Regional and National levels. We are a Swim Mark accredited club and part of the London Roar and East London Networks. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and delivering the coaching programme for their squad and working closely with the Head Coach.  You will be required to coach a number of sessions with the support of the current dedicated coaching team, working on technique and development of advanced skills and performance. This is a fantastic opportunity for coaches looking to grow their current role. The role is part-time, up to 12 hours per week. We train at pools throughout Greenwich as well as The London Aquatic Centre.   

The ideal candidate will preferably hold the following: 

  • A Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate/ASA Level 2 Coaching Award as a minimum (for the right candidate there may be opportunities to fund further qualifications)
  • Swim England Land training qualification would be advantageous but not essential
  • Have a high technical understanding to design and produce detailed swim sessions for specific squads 
  • Be willing to keep up to date with future developments in swimming and share this  knowledge with the rest of the coaching team 
  • Demonstrate a strong ability to motivate and coach swimmers, working closely on technique development. 
  • Work closely with coaches, swimmers and their parents, the committee and our volunteers.
  • Be willing to attend appropriate competitions 
  • Be willing to cover other coaches’ squads, when necessary
  • Excellent admin skills and computer literacy to complement the role. 
  • Child Safeguarding and DBS Certificate from Swim England-approved training provider
