Ady Hinchliffe delivers East Region coaching conference

On 21 January 2017, City of Leeds diving coach Ady Hinchliffe delivered a coaching conference in Southend to 23 ASA East Region coaches.

Coaches were asked to provide a list of topics they wanted to see covered, with Ady holding sessions in classroom, diving gym and pool.

He explained how he started and developed as a coach and how he has gone on to work with and mentor other coaches as part of Leeds Diving Club.

He also talked about coaching Jack Laugher and Chris Mears, who became Team GB’s first ever diving Olympic champions in Rio last summer.

Ady talked about his coaching philosophy and ways to build good relationships with athletes.

During pool and diving gym sessions, he shared tips for improving strength and conditioning, as well as technical skills.

In the pool, he demonstrated using skill chains to ensure competency and consistency of the basics which ensure a good basis for more complex skills.

“It’s fantastic to see our regions really investing in their coaches,” said ASA National Development Officer Becky Milnes.

“I’m looking forward to visiting the coaches who attended to see how they are implementing what they have learned from Ady.”
