Alexei Evangulov named in 'pivotal role' as 2022 Commonwealth Games diving leader

Alexei Evangulov has been named as the diving leader for Team England at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

British Swimming’s National Performance Director has a wealth of experience of leading at major competitions that will prove to be invaluable for Team England in Birmingham.

A diver from his early childhood in his native Russia, Alexei became the head coach of the Trade Union Central Club, Moscow, in 1989.

He progressed to head coach of the Russian National Diving Team and was also vice=president of the Russian Diving Federation.

In 2009, Alexei was appointed by British Swimming as the National Performance Director for the diving squad.

He has been Team Leader at every Olympic Games since 1996, including London 2012 and Rio 2016 with Team GB.

Alexei has also been a member of the LEN Technical Diving Committee since 1994.

Mark England, Team England Chef de Mission, said Alexei would be a key part of the team to help achieve success in the new Sandwell Aquatics Centre when the Commonwealth Games begin on Thursday 28 July 2022.

He said: “Team Leaders play a pivotal role in the preparation of athletes and support staff in the lead up to and during the Commonwealth Games.

“It’s really encouraging that we have such a high-quality group as we prepare our sports for the Games in Birmingham.

“I’m confident they’ll ensure every athlete has everything they need to showcase their talent and achieve performance success on the home stage for Team England in less than two years’ time.”
