Alfie and Jordan bounce back to grab gold at National Age Group Championships

Alfie Whytock and Jordan Fisher-Eames put a disappointing first dive behind them to win a national title at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge.

The Luton Diving Club duo triumphed in the Swim England Diving National Age Group Championships Boys 8-13 Years 1m Synchro.

They were fifth after round one but had climbed to pole position after their third dive – an inward one-and-a-half somersault tuck – and never looked back to take the gold medal with a total of 156.06.

That left them 3.9 points ahead of silver medallists Joshua Bush and Connor Lano, representing Luton Diving Club and Southend Diving, who scored 152.16.

They were in the top three throughout the competition and their final dive – a back one-and-a-half somersaults in tuck position – scored them 37.80 to seal second spot.

The bronze was won by the Southampton Diving Academy pair of Jamie Akerman and Oliver Wignall, who finished on 147.60.

Whytock and Fisher-Eames said: “We’re very proud and very happy. We’ll be having a big dinner later to celebrate.”
