Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix wins European Aquatics’ Female Diver of the Year
January 23, 2025Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix made it a British double at the European Aquatics awards after taking the Female Diver of the Year crown for the first time.
Spendolini-Sirieix was chosen as the winner following votes from both federation representatives and the public, joining compatriot Tom Daley on the 2024 winners list.
The result capped off an incredible year for the 20-year-old, which peaked at the Paris 2024 Olympics where she took bronze alongside Lois Toulson in the Women’s 10m Synchronised Platform.
The British duo secured their place on the podium with an outstanding final dive – their best of the competition – that yielded 77.76 points in one of the closest finals of the competition.
Her efforts made her part of a Team GB women’s diving team that won Olympic medals for the first time in 64 years and after receiving the award she told European Aquatics that she couldn’t have done it without the support of everyone back home.
She said: “I am so honoured to be European Aquatics’ Female Diver of the Year.
“I appreciate everyone’s support and honestly this year has been incredible. Not just for the competitions but in terms of all the memories that I’ve made.
“I really couldn’t do it without you guys”
“I just appreciate everyone that has voted for me. I couldn’t do this without my family, my friends, coach, my support staff and everyone online and those that come and watch competitions. I really couldn’t do it without you guys so thank you so much.”
The Dive London athlete also went well in the individual event in Paris – taking sixth to go one better than her seventh-place finish in her debut Games in Tokyo.
In addition to her Olympic medal, she became a world champion in the Mixed Team Event alongside Tom Daley, Scarlett Mew Jensen and Dan Goodfellow.
At the World Championships in Doha she also secured two bronze medals in the individual 10m platform and the 10m synchro alongside Toulson.
The Aquatics GB Performance Centre athlete also claimed seven medals across the World Aquatics Diving World Cup events, including a gold in the mixed team event in Berlin to take her total to 11 international medals for the year.
Spendolini-Sirieix’s British teammates Toulson and Mew Jensen also made the final five for the award with Mew Jensen finishing fourth and Toulson fifth.
