Young divers head to Plymouth for Aquatics GB Elite Junior Championships
April 9, 2025The Plymouth Life Centre hosts a key event in the British diving calendar as the Aquatics GB Elite Junior Diving Championships head to the South West.
Around 100 British divers will take to the water across the four days where they’ll take on not just each other but guest divers from the likes of Australia, Italy, Greece and New Zealand.
The added competition will give the athletes an even bigger test against the best divers in their age categories as they battle it out for national titles across the four days.
The action takes place from Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 April, with the results of the meet also playing a key role in the selection for the British team that will head to June’s European Junior Diving Championships in Athens, Greece.
The competition will host both individual and synchronised events across the 3m springboard and platform categories, as well as individual competitions from the 1m springboard. Those events will be held across three age categories: Group A – 16-18 years; Group B – 14-15 years; Group C – 9-13 years.
Amongst those heading to Plymouth are several divers from Swim England’s diving talent pathway, with those a number of those in Swim England’s Junior Development, Youth Development and DiSE (Diploma in Sporting Excellence) programmes competing at the event.
That includes 2024 champions Skye Fisher-Eames and Robbie Wood who went on to become European Junior Champions later in the year. They’ll both be making the step up to the Group A competitions this time around after claiming multiple medals in the Group B category 12 months ago.
Junior European medallist Todd Geggus returns to the competition after being one of the standout performers in Sandwell last year. He recorded the highest scoring total of the competition with a massive 546.30 points to take victory in the Group A Boys 3m final ahead of fellow pathway divers Oscar Willcox and Oliver Heath.
He then became a double gold medallist in the 1m final and is looking repeat that feat as well as going for gold in the 3m Synchro with partner Connor Lano.
There’s also six divers from the younger Youth Development squad looking to impress at a high level and gain some vital competition experience. That includes a bronze medallist from last year in Ella Swete, who returns in each of the individual Female Group C events following her 3m synchro medal with Isla Applin last year.
