Pathway divers looking to impress at British Elite Junior Championships

Young divers on the Swim England pathway will be aiming to qualify for this summer’s junior international events at the British Elite Junior Diving Championships.

The event takes place at the Plymouth Life Centre from Thursday 13 to Sunday 16 April where the nation’s best up and coming divers battle it out for the British titles.

Divers will also get the opportunity to take on their counterparts from overseas with teams travelling from the likes of Canada and Finland to take part.

And more than 20 divers from Swim England’s Team Y and Team Z programmes will be travelling down to the South West for the competition.

This includes World Junior silver medallist Jorden Fisher-Eames and Junior European medallists, Oscar Wilcox, Oscar Kane, Hannah Newbrook and Todd Geggus.

They will be aiming to continue their impressive form from last year, as they along with the rest of the athletes look to secure their place on the British squad for the European Junior Diving Championships in August.

‘An exciting competition’

Ahead of the competition, Swim England Diving Programme Lead, Connie Ford, spoke about the opportunity the young divers have to showcase their ability.

She said: “This event is an opportunity for divers to show what they are capable of ahead of a busy summer of international competition.

“We have incredible young talent across the sport in this country which was proven by the impressive showing from the British team at the World Junior Championships last year. And this event is a key selection opportunity for our young divers who are looking to book their place at the European Junior Championships this summer.

“We’ll also be looking at those youngsters who show potential across the competition to be included on our Team Y camps across the year.

“It promises to be an exciting four days of competition.”
