Youngsters aim to impress at British Elite Junior Diving Championships

Some of the country’s top young divers will be aiming to qualify for this year’s major international events at the British Elite Junior Diving Championships.

The event takes place at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge International Pool from Thursday 11 to Sunday 14 April.

Teams from America, Canada, Finland, Poland, Ireland and Turkey have also travelled to south Yorkshire to take part in the competition.

Suzie Collins, Swim England talent development officer for diving, said the championships will give a number of youngsters the opportunity to qualify for the Junior European Championships and other high-profile events.

Exciting competition

She said: “This event is an opportunity for divers to show selectors what they are capable of ahead of another busy summer schedule.

“Qualification spots for the Junior Europeans in Kazan, Russia, in June and the CAMO Invitational in Montreal, Canada, will be up for grabs.

“And we’ll also be looking at those youngsters who show potential to be included on the Swim England Team Y Assessment Camp.

“It promises to be an exciting few days of competition.”
