City of Sheffield crowned top club at National Age Group Championships

City of Sheffield won the top club at the Swim England National Age Group Championships.

In front of a home Ponds Forge crowd, they won five gold, six silvers and seven bronzes to finish with 18 medals and a total of 226 points.

Southampton Diving Academy were second on 210 after wining 14 medals – one gold, seven silver and six bronze.

In third spot were Luton Diving Club, who finished on 133 points after winning a total of three golds, two silver and four bronze medals.

Sam Hydes, victorious City of Sheffield Diving coach, said: “We have a strong team each year and we’ve won this team trophy multiple years in a row.

“We’ll keep going and keep training. It’s nice to see all the kids do really well.

Absolute credit

“They were absolutely spectacular. I think we’ve got a medal in a majority of the events this week.

“Credit to the children and the coaches for doing an amazing job. We’ve seen such happy faces and great competitors.

“We try and do our best throughout and give everyone an equal opportunity.

“It’s so nice being here. We like the support we get and I really love Sheffield, so it’s really nice being here.

“We’re quite a nice, close knit family and it’s really nice to be a part of.”
