Hat-trick of golds for Maisie Bond as Swim England divers shine at Camo Invitational

Maisie Bond sealed a clean sweep of gold medals on her debut international appearance as Swim England divers continued to shine at the Camo Invitational.

The City of Sheffield diver followed up her triumphs in the Girls’ C Platform and 1m Springboard competitions with victory in the 3m Springboard event.

It was one of three medals won by Swim England divers on the final day of the competition at the Claude Robillard Sports Complex in Montreal.

Bond was made to work hard for her final gold medal as she was pushed all the way for the title by the Germany duo of Lena Philin Schneider and Emily Steinhagen.

It looked like the top spot had slipped out of her grasp after a disappointing inward two-and-a-half somersault but she responded well with a fantastic final dive – a backward two-and-a-half somersault – to take claim her third gold.

Bond finished with a total of 281.85 – 3.5 ahead of second-placed Schneider (278.35) and 5.65 clear of bronze medallist Steinhagen (276.20).

One-two for French and Lee

Meanwhile, the Swim England duo of Milo French and Robbie Lee took the top two spots in the Boys’ B Platform.

Southampton team-mates Lee and French had qualified from the preliminary round in first and second place respectively.

But it was French who claimed the gold medal after performing one of the dives of the meet.

His back three-and-a-half somersaults from the 10m board earned him an impressive 89.10 points as he picked up nines from all the judges.

That ensured he finished in top spot with a total of 435.60 – 34.05 clear of Lee who comfortably took the silver medal with a score of 401.55.

They were the only two divers in the competition to score more than 400 points.

Crystal Palace’s Romano Wang was seventh after finishing on 316.45.

Brown and Davison just miss out

In the Girls’ B Platform final, Tilly Brown and Jenna Davison finished just outside the medals.

Southampton’s Brown took fourth spot with 275.90 points – 12.00 behind Mexico’s Ana Camyla Monroy who claimed the final podium spot and the bronze medal with a score of 287.90.

City of Sheffield’s Davison was 8.95 points adrift of Brown in fifth place on 266.95.
