Matty Lee takes Men's 10m Platform titleJune 6, 2017
Matty Lee lifted his first individual British title after a dramatic conclusion to the men’s 10m Platform at the 2017 British Diving Championships in Edinburgh.
After winning the prelims to dive last in the final, the City of Leeds diver found himself facing an uphill challenge to even make the podium, lying sixth after the opening two rounds.
But Lee, who won silver in this event 12 months ago after bronze medals in 2014 and 2015, proved his physical and mental strength as he hurtled his way back up the leaderboard, finally taking top spot with the last dive of the Championships.
British Junior Elite champion Matthew Dixon and British National Cup champion Noah Williams took the fight to Lee, setting scores of 417.60 and 417.50 respectively for the 19-year old to beat.
But Lee, who won Mixed 10m Synchro silver at last year’s European Championships in London, rose to the challenge, receiving the highest score of the final with 90.65 for his Front 4 ½ Somersaults tucked to finish on 431.40.

I have waited for this title for a while
“I feel like I have waited for this title for a while,” admitted Lee. “There have been a few times where I have had the opportunity to get the title and I haven’t delivered so it feels so good to have finally got it.
“It wasn’t easy but I am over the moon to have got it finally. The final didn’t start well for me and I could have easily gone the wrong way and got grumpy about it and not been able to bring it back.
“But I have been working on trying to think about the process and not the outcome.
“I have been focusing on each individual dive and not the gold medal or score and that showed today by how I could bring it back.”
