Southend shine as Barry completes clean sweep and Low secures hat-trick of titles

Southend Diving enjoyed a successful day three as the club claimed a hat-trick of gold medals at the GoCardless Swim England Diving National Age Group Championships 2025.

Beau Barry was the first of their athletes to step on top of the podium after edging out his opponents in the Open Group D Platform.

There was just 0.80 separating first and second, with the Southend diver finishing with a score of 152.50 to take gold ahead of City of Sheffield’s Sebastian Karanjit.

The result saw Barry collect his fourth gold medal of the competition and complete a clean sweep of his Group D events – 1m, 3m, Platform and the Group C/D 1m Synchro.

Hayden Low secured Southend’s next two gold medals – the final one alongside his teammate and synchro partner Noah Havis to round off the day in style.

The duo put on a consistent performance across five rounds of diving to be the only pair to break the 200-point barrier and finish on 205.92.

That synchro victory made it a hat-trick of national titles for Lowe so far at this year’s championships, following on from his success in the Open Group A 3m event earlier in the day and his 1m national title achieved on day two.

Familiar faces on the podium

It was a fantastic atmosphere inside the Sandwell Aquatics Centre for day three and the performances certainly rose to the occasion.

Alongside the multiple medals for Southend’s Barry and Low, there were more familiar faces amongst the podium places, with most of the gold medal winners collecting their second of the competition.

However, that’s what made the result in the Female Group A 1m event that extra bit special, with Plymouth Diving’s Rose McCabe earning her first gold – following on from a silver medal on the opening day of action alongside Evie Royal in the Group A/B 3m Synchro.

McCabe was in second place heading into the final round of dives but produced a brilliant forward 2 1/2 somersault in the tuck position to win by less than two points.

Southampton’s Samantha Barr, Plymouth Diving’s Will Heath, Darlington ASC’s Evan Cooper and two Dive London athletes, Alana Ojok and Sienna Robson, all added a second gold medal to their tallies.

It is two medals, two golds for Darlington courtesy of Cooper’s remarkable form which saw him open up a comfortable points lead in the Open Group C 1m.

He finished on a total of 212.15 – backing up his victory in the 3m event where he also exceeded 200 points.
