Tom Daley and Grace Reid save their best until last again to bag bronze

Tom Daley and Grace Reid left it to their final dive again as they bagged their second FINA Diving World Series bronze medal in the space of a week.

And Jack Laugher won his third bronze medal of the 2019 Diving World Series to cap an excellent second day for the Great Britain team in China.

After claiming third spot in the Mixed 3m Synchro in the first leg of the competition in Japan, Daley and Reid repeated that achievement in the second stage in Beijing’s Water Cube.

In what proved to be a close contest, Daley and Reid were 1.29 points clear of the fourth-placed duo, Domonic Bedggood and Annabelle Smith of Australia.

They were fourth going into their last dive but achieved their highest score of the event, 67.89, with a Front 3½ Somersault Pike (107B) to snatch the bronze medal with a total of 294.39

Daley said: “I’m really happy with the performance by me and Grace.

Solid, steady performance

“It was a solid, steady performance – there was nothing crazily good and there was nothing that was crazily bad. It was just solid and consistent diving, which is exactly what you need at a World Series event.

“We’re looking forward to the next one now.”

The Canadian duo of Francois Imbeau-Dulac and Jennifer Abel won silver with the Chinese pair of Hat Yang and Yani Chang topping the podium.

In the Men’s 3m Springboard competition, Laugher finished only 0.45 points ahead of Mexico’s Rommel Heco Marrufo with a total of 457.55 to grab third spot – and add to the two bronze medals he won in Japan.

Ross Haslam was sixth with a score of 399.80.
