START Diving programme returns for 2017

Latest Updates

START Diving is returning to diving clubs and leisure centres across the country this summer to offer free introductory sessions to the sport.

Swim England funds the programme, and allows diving centres to open their doors to new audiences. Now in its second year, the programme will provide the chance for thousands of people to try this exciting sport.

The programme will run throughout 2017, and will allow people to meet new friends and jump off the highest board they dare. There will also be chances to sign up for further sessions at the centre following the initial taster.

Qualified diving coaches will lead the sessions, and will also be looking for any budding talent or natural flair for the sport. This will help the centres to grow their diving squads and bring through some of the next generation of talent in the sport.

National Diving Officer Becky Walker is excited about the 2017 programme. She said: “START Diving is a fantastic programme allowing hundreds of children across the country the opportunity to try diving for the first time through fun free taster sessions with our diving clubs.

“We chose the clubs to deliver the programme following an open application process. The clubs selected showed they would be able to have an impact on lots of children. In particular, they showed they could reach new audiences not usually involved in the sport.

“It is hoped that through these taster sessions our coaches can identify any future potential diving superstars. Perhaps most importantly, lots of children may find a new activity they love to keep them active and in the water.”
