Swim England Diving Development Centres announced

Eight diving clubs have been selected for Diving Development Centre (DDC) status by Swim England.

We have awarded funding to the clubs to help them to begin growing the sport in England. The funding will help them to deliver a programme that will grow the number of divers and qualified coaches at their centres.

As well as funding, the clubs will receive support from National Diving Development Officer Becky Walker. The application process was open to all clubs. After careful consideration, we awarded DDC status to the following clubs:

Clubs will use funding to grow programmes

The clubs will use DDC funding to increase the size and quality of their programmes. They will be able to recruit more divers for their lessons and see more divers making their way into the competitive squads.

The focus isn’t purely on increasing the number of divers. The clubs will also be able to improve the quality of coaching. This will be achieved by training new coaches, and offering current coaches the chance to develop their skills.

Swim England National Diving Development Officer Becky Walker is eager to see the results of the programme. She said: “This funding is going to be vital to support our clubs to grow their numbers. I’m really looking forward to working with these programmes to support their development and I’m excited to see the results.”

Each club has set targets which are related to the funding. If they hit these targets, we will see an increase of the number of divers involved in our programmes by 500 nationally. We would also see another 20 coaches gaining qualifications, which would be a huge boost to the sport in England.

This round of funding runs from July 2017 until June 2018. If the programme is a success, we will be looking to re-open applications for next year’s programme in early 2018.
