Team Z camp deemed 'challenging and developmental' for young divers

The first Team Z camp in almost two years saw divers from 10 clubs across the country coming together for a ‘challenging and exciting’ weekend.

The group of 33 newly selected divers, who impressed at the Talent Games, and divers who were on the programme in 2020, enjoyed the ‘interactive and developmental’ camp.

Head coach Shan Veasey, from Southend Diving, led the camp alongside nine other diving coaches who shared their knowledge and expertise with the group of youngsters.

Veasey said: “The return of the Team Z training camp was a great weekend for England and Scotland’s newest talent and the more experienced athletes who are reaching the end of the programme.

“The athletes were challenged with various exciting tasks and games over the weekend and the high skill level was evident throughout the sessions.

“Throughout the weekend, I drew upon the knowledge and confidence I gained from taking part in the UK Coaching Performance Focus Coach Development Programme when working with the team.

“It was great to work with the coaches who guide these young athletes through their journeys. We had some opportunity to share best practice and up-to-date coaching strategies too. All-round, the camps are very valuable to the progress of the sport.”

‘Brimming with young talent’

Suzie Collins, Swim England diving talent development officer, added: “The Team Z camp was a great success.

“Never before have we had a camp with such a wide age range. It was a great opportunity for the newly-selected athletes to interact and learn from those that have been involved with the programme since 2020.

“Alex Rochas, who is currently working with the British Diving World Class Programme in London, also delivered a workshop on planning to the 10 coaches which was really beneficial.

“The UK is brimming with young talent and we are excited to see these athletes develop over the coming years.”
