GB divers secure trio of synchro medals at World Cup Super Final

Great Britain’s divers concluded the World Aquatics Diving World Cup Series with three synchro medals at the Super Final in Beijing.

Paris 2024 medal winning pairings of Jack Laugher and Anthony Harding as well as Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen each left with medals whilst Lois Toulson and teenager Maisie Bond completing Britain’s medal haul.

Of the three pairings a stunning silver medal saw Laugher and Harding finish highest amongst the British group.

They delivered a remarkable list in the Men’s 3m Synchronised Platform, including a 92.24-point six round effort to secure second spot on 434.88 points.

That incredible final round Forward 4 1/2 Somersault wasn’t enough to catch the Chinese pair however, with Yukang Hu and Jiuyuan Zheng topping the scoreboard on 448.65.

It did however mark ‘a really good step forward’ for the pair: “That’s a solid performance we pulled off,” Laugher said.

“We learnt a lot from the first two stops of the World Cup, but we still don’t have our full diving list back which we competed at the Paris 2024 Olympics. There’s still time for that to come for the Singapore World Championships. A really good step forward.”

Women’s 3m Synchro Paris medallists, Harper and Mew Jensen, secured their first podium of the 2025 World Cup series with bronze.

They put in a strong performance – highlighted by their excellent third round Forward 2½ Somersaults 1 Twist Pike (5152B) – to finish marginally behind the Australian pair they’d been closely tied with on points throughout.

“We’re really, really pleased with the outcome. We’ve been working on that but I think we just wanted to have fun, embrace our training, and be confident in each other and ourselves,” said Mew Jensen.

Taking on the new format for the first time

The final British medal of the competition came courtesy of Toulson and Bond, who backed up their Women’s 10m Synchronised bronze medal at the Windsor, Canada leg with another third-placed finish.

Getting stronger through each of the optional dives, the British pair crowned their performance with an impressive 72.00 points on their final dive – a Back 2 1/2 Somersaults 1 1/2 Twists Pike (5253B).

On pairing up with her new 17-year-old dive partner and their performance, Toulson said: It’s been really nice and fun to dive with Maisie [Bond] this season, it makes me feel young again.

“The competition was so close that we could have won silvers or finished seventh, so we are delighted with these bronzes.”

In individual competition, the new head-to-head format was showcased for the first time

In the head-to-head stage, divers were paired together based on their seeding across the previous World Cup legs. Each diver chose three dives to perform, and the lowest scorer in each pairing was eliminated.

Six athletes then advanced to the semi-finals where they were split into two groups of three. where the lowest score after their remaining dives missed out on the final. That left four divers for the final round where they had to repeat their full list in a fast-paced battle for the medals.

Out of the Brits in individual action, Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix made it furthest in the head-to-head rounds. She made the final four to finish just shy of the medal places in the Women’s 10m Platform with Bond being eliminated in the head-to-head stage.

Meanwhile Laugher and the gold medal winner from the previous leg in Canada – Jordan Houlden – both missed out on the final four after advancing through the initial head-to-head stage.
