The Institute of Swimming and B Mindful launch an exceptional CPD for the aquatics community: The Importance of Self-Care, and How to Support the Mental Health of Yourself and Others

The Institute of Swimming and B Mindful are delighted to announce their partnership in launching an innovative Continuing Professional Development (CPD) webinar designed specifically for the aquatics community. The new CPD course, ‘The Importance of Self-Care, and How to Support the Mental Health of Yourself and Others,’ aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to identify early warning signs of stress, depression, and anxiety, as well as provide effective support to individuals affected by poor mental health.

One of the key objectives of this CPD is to foster an understanding of the significance of self-care and its positive impact on overall well-being and mental health. By recognising the importance of self-care, participants can enhance their ability to support others and promote an environment conducive to positive mental health.

Leigh Willcock, Head of B Mindful, emphasized the necessity of mental health education, stating,

“We all have mental health; it’s vital that we educate ourselves to be able to best support those experiencing or at risk of experiencing poor mental health so that individuals have the best opportunities to thrive within educational settings.”

The workshop will serve as an introduction to identifying behavioural signs associated with stress and the interconnections between stress and mental health. Participants will also explore various strategies to provide effective support to those in need.

Jenny Norvill, Head of the Institute of Swimming, shared the inspiration behind the CPD, saying,

“The concept for this CPD came about as we noticed that some of the trainees on our courses needed extra support and our Tutors wanted to be able to help them and themselves more effectively. Teachers and coaches are nurturing members of the aquatics community and often participants and athletes turn to them in their time of need. This can be difficult for anyone to handle and we want to make sure they have the tools to support those around them as well as themselves.”

The ‘Importance of Self-Care, and How to Support the Mental Health of Yourself and Others’ CPD will cover the following topics:

  • Recognizing behaviours
  • Initiating conversations about mental health
  • Self-care practices
  • Strategies for supporting individuals

This collaboration between the Institute of Swimming and B Mindful represents a meaningful step towards creating a supportive and compassionate aquatics community that prioritises mental well-being.
