Free table officials resource aims to recruit new water polo volunteers

A new free resource aimed at anyone with an interest in water polo and officiating has been launched by Swim England.

The Introduction to becoming a Table Official – Water Polo resource is the first step on the journey to becoming a vital volunteer at matches.

It has been created to give confidence to those who might not have the basic knowledge of the sport, pitch set up and roles of officials in water polo – and aims to encourage more people to volunteer in the role.

The resource covers:

  • Water polo officials
  • Table officials
  • The Water Polo pitch

Claire Coleman, Swim England Head of Volunteering and Pathways, said: “We have worked with the Water Polo Leadership Group to develop this resource aimed at bridging the gap between watching the sport and being an active volunteer.

“We remain committed to encouraging people to volunteer and meet the deliverables of the Water polo strategy.

Develop knowledge

“Table officiating is the first step in to officiating in water polo and a great way to get a poolside seat to this exciting game.

“We also hope that this online resource will reach a younger audience who may want to consider volunteering with their club.

“It will help to develop your knowledge of the discipline and make you consider whether to become a qualified table official.

“We have worked with Chris Stephens and Mike Hesketh, who are members of the Swim England Water Polo Leadership Group, as well as being experienced table officials and presenters, to create this resource.”

There is no presenter so the resource can be completed at the pace of the participant and as many times as required.
