Great Britain's Men's U18s head to Greece for six-day training camp
February 24, 2025Great Britain’s Men’s U18s have just returned from a six-day training camp in Greece, where they faced several local sides.
Like the women’s side, Tom Wall’s team took the opportunity to go overseas as they continued their preparation for the European Championships in Portugal this summer.
The 22-strong group and five staff headed to Glyfada, just outside of Athens, to train at Ano Glyfada’s impressive facilities throughout the week.
It gave the team a chance to experience some outdoor water polo as they took on a number of Greek club teams to prepare for the Championships, which get underway on Monday 18 August.
They firstly took on hosts Glyfada, before heading into Athens to face the likes of Palaio Faliro, Panionios and Peristeri SC in friendly matches during their time in South East Europe.
The team also took the time to take in some top-level water polo as they attended the Greek A1 League match between Panathinaikos AO and Vouliagmeni. They were able to meet some of the players after the game as Panathinaikos ran out narrow 11-10 winners.
There was even the opportunity to take in a motivational talk from USA international Matt Farmer as he shared his knowledge and experiences with the young group.
Great Britain have been drawn in Group C of Division One for the European Championships in Rio Maior where they’ll face Israel, Belgium and Austria.
The event in Portugal will be the main focus for Tom Wall’s side throughout the year and the camp in Greece will have given them some valuable training and game time in one of the biggest water polo nations in the continent.
Great Britain’s U18 Women will also be in European Championships action in 2025 and they’ve used their half-term break with a training camp of their own in Tenerife. You can find out more about that camp here.
