Huck scores seven as GB ease past Bulgaria

Captain Rosie Huck scored seven goals as Great Britain demolished Bulgaria at the European U19 Water Polo Championships 2016 in the Hague, the Netherlands.

The Brits were rarely troubled by their inexperienced opponents, ultimately securing a 27-6 (5-1, 6-1, 7-3, 9-1) victory to bounce back from their opening defeat to Italy.

Stretford SC player Annie Clapperton also scored five for the Brits while Crawley SC’s Lily Turner added to her double against Italy with a hat-trick. Otter’s Kathy Rogers also scored a hat-trick for the British women.

There were doubles for Robyn Greenslade, Isobel Howe and Beth Bolton, while Izzy Dean, Katy Cutler and Hannah Edwards scored once each.

With Slovakia losing 23-4 to Italy, the Brits know a draw in their final group match against the Slovaks on Wednesday will be enough to see them finish second in the group and set up a likely playoff match with Serbia for a place in the quarter finals.

British assistant coach Balasz Kis said: “We set the girls performance targets for this match against Bulgaria which they achieved.

“Although there were periods during the game when our tempo dropped off, in the end we delivered a better goal difference against the Bulgarians than the Slovakians achieved and this was pleasing.

“Our players performed well together with goals spread across the team, and we look forward to delivering against Slovakia.”
