McCoy and GB's spirits high ahead of Israel clash

As Team GB prepare for their crunch game against Israel tomorrow at the Baku 2015 European Games, vice captain Verity McCoy says the team remain confident despite three successive defeats and still have a top 10 finish firmly in their sights.

“We’re looking forward to the Israel game and we’re optimistic, but not over confident,” said Liverpool’s McCoy after scoring a stunning back-shot in this afternoon’s 19-6 loss to Netherlands.

“We’re just going to approach tomorrow’s game with the same levels of intensity that we showed today.

“The team is improving and learning with every match and we’ll be ready to go again tomorrow.”

“We’ve definitely increased the intensity of our play and against Israel we’ll be ready to compete as hard as we can” – GB vice captain Verity McCoy.

Israel sit bottom of Group A on goal difference after losing to the Dutch 29-1, 23-3 to Hungary and 10-1 to Germany, but Team GB are taking nothing for granted and fully expect another tough encounter tomorrow.

“Every game at this tournament will be tough, but we’re constantly progressing and against the Netherlands we played much better than we did in our opening game against Greece,” added McCoy.

“Our aim is to improve with every match. We’ve definitely increased the intensity of our play and against Israel we’ll be ready to compete as hard as we can.”

Great Britain face Israel at the Baku Water Polo Arena on Monday, 11am start UK time.
