West Midlands win Boys' U14 Inter Regional title
December 12, 2017West Midlands took their first Boys’ Inter Regional U14 title with victory in front of a home crowd at Walsall Gala Baths.
Having finished second in Saturday’s group stages, West Midlands stepped up a gear in the knock-out rounds.
They saw off Group A winners London with an 8-6 semi-final victory before defeating 2015 champions North East Steelers 5-1 in the final.
Steelers were the only side to get the better of the West Midlands across the weekend, having secured a 5-2 victory over them in the group stages.
But West Mids battled hard to turn the tables in the final, with Daniel Day scoring four of his side’s five goals.
Exciting to win the tournament
“It was really exciting to win the tournament,” said West Midlands captain Lorcan Halstead. “I enjoyed playing with great teammates from across the West Midlands.
“We also want to thank the coaches Gary and Ryan for all the training and great tactics.”
Head coach Gary Tonks added: “I couldn’t be prouder. Each and every player played their part which resulted in an all-round brilliant team effort.”
Defending champions North West Tigers took bronze, winning 8-6 on penalties after the bronze medal match against London had finished 4-4.
