Great Britain squad selected for the 2023 Women’s EU Nations Cup

Great Britain have named a team of 13 players for the 2023 Senior Women’s EU Nations Cup. The competition takes place in Brno, Czechia from 30 November – 3 December at the newly renovated ‘Za Lužánkami’ pool.

The national U19 squad will make up the group as they continue their preparation for their European Championship qualifiers next year.

The squad includes six members from Great Britain’s U17 European Championship side that impressed to finish 13th place in Turkey over the summer.

Amongst those is centre forward and Britain’s top scorer in Manisa, Amelie Perkins, who netted 23 goals across the Championships.

She’s joined by her long standing teammates Hannah Pyper (City of Liverpool), Lily Ross (Cheltenham) and City of Manchester trio Lucy Blenkinship, Amelie Brooksbank and Scotland’s Junior Water Polo Player of the Year Zara Christie.

They’ll be looking to continue the national success at the competition after England ‘red’ finished second and England ‘white’ fourth at last year’s event.

Rising to the challenge

Also heading to Brno are captain Harriet Dickens and vice-captain Amelie Cornell who were part of England’s side which were runners-up at the Home Nations Tournament in May.

Pippa Danielson, Sophie Leveridge, Juliet Lyons, Izzy Robb and Adriana Rodriguez Garcia complete the group that will be led by head coach Izzy Howe – who took over the national U19 squad earlier this year.

Jade Smith will join her as assistant coach for this trip with Vicky Dickens travelling as team manager to support the team throughout the four-day event.

Speaking about the squad, Howe said: ‘We’re really excited to travel to the EU Nations Cup in Brno. It will be an important step in our preparations towards the Europeans this summer gaining us valuable international match experience.

“As it is a senior competition and we are a junior team we’re expecting some tough opposition but we’ve got an incredibly talented group of players that I know will rise to the challenge.”

Details on the groups on the fixtures will be released on the event website in due course and all the matches from the competition will be streamed on the ‘Czech Water Polo’ YouTube channel.
