City of Sheffield secure spot in the next round of the National Age Group Champs

City of Sheffield comprehensively booked their place in the next round of the Swim England Water Polo National Age Group Championships.

They topped their group in the boys’ U19 preliminary event after winning all four of their matches at Matlock on Sunday 11 March.

City of Sheffield, who won the U17 title last year, finished with a goal difference of 36 after beating Northampton 15-2, Caledonia 6-5, Croydon 14-4 and Cheltenham 15-3.

Caledonia took second place after winning their three other matches, while Croydon and Cheltenham also sealed their place in the next round after finishing third and fourth respectively.

Defending champions Sedgefield through

On Saturday 10 March, Sedgefield won both their matches to finish top of Group A.

They defeated Watford, who took the second qualification spot, 11-4 and Carmarthen 15-3 at Grantham.

City of Manchester took top spot after winning one and drawing the other in their two Group B matches.

They thrashed City of Birmingham 17-1 and that was enough to help them seal first place in the group after they drew 5-5 with runners-up Newton Abbot.

Newton Abbot couldn’t match City of Manchester’s emphatic victory against Birmingham but a 6-3 success was enough to take them through.

The next stage of the U19s competition takes place in Gloucester on 7-8 April.
