British Junior medallists head to Italy for 8 Nations Diving Meet

A team of 10 British athletes are taking part in the Eight Nations Youth Diving Meet in Turin, Italy this week.

The two-day competition gives the team a great opportunity to take on some of the best divers of their age from across Europe.

Athletes from France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland will all be competing at the event which takes place at the Piscina Stadio Monumentale.

The meet is specifically for divers aged between 14-18 years old with competition for both Group A and Group B age groups on both the 1m and 3m boards.

The British contingent features seven athletes who won medals at last year’s British Elite Junior Championships and includes a mixture of those on Swim England’s Team Y or Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) programme and British Swimming’s Podium Potential and developmental squads.

Amongst those looking to impress in Italy are Amelie Underwood and Oscar Kane who were both a part of Great Britain’s European Junior Championship squad last summer.

Underwood, who made her international debut with the Swim England squad at the Camo Invitational event at the end of 2022, was just outside of the medals in Croatia will be looking to reach the podium this time around.

Like Underwood, Sebastian Willcox and Connor Lano both medaled at that event in Canada and will be looking to do the same as they step onto the international stage once again.

Caitlyn Coster, Libby Duke, Todd Geggus, Oscar Kane, Siena Rae Mills, Oscar Willcox are also a part of the squad after their medal winning displays at the British Elite Junior Diving Championships in 2023.

They’ll be led in Italy by Swim England Diving Programme Lead, Connie Ford, who is team leader for the event alongside some of the nation’s top coaches including Sam Buck, Georgia Davenport and Shan Veasey.

Diving gets underway at 9am on Friday 22 March and you can follow all the results from the event here.
