16 divers selected for Diploma in Sporting Excellence programme

A group of 16 divers have been selected to join Swim England’s Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) for 2023-2025.

This government-funded programme is fully integrated into all Swim England talent pathways and offers the perfect environment for athletes to harmoniously combine their sport and education.

Divers were selected based on their performances across the year, specifically at the British Elite Junior Diving Championships.

The latest cohort were inducted onto the programme, which is delivered in conjunction with Loughborough College, last month,.

The group attended a four-day diving camp alongside fellow members of Swim England’s Team Y squad and Great Britain’s Team J at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre from Wednesday 25 – Saturday 28 October.

It’s the first time that DiSE has been integrated into a pathway camp, giving athletes from not just the DiSE programme but across the talent pathway the opportunity to benefit from expertise in topics such as physio and nutrition.

The divers were able to take advantage of the top class facility, working on their skills both on the boards and in the centre’s drydive gym with the support of expert coaches from across the nation.

The gym contains a foam pit, two trampolines, five dryboards and a diving platform giving them the chance to fine-tune their dive lists and technical skills throughout the four days.

‘Supporting them every step of the way’

Speaking about the induction, Swim England DiSE Assessor Manager Paula West said: “We’re delighted to welcome the latest group of athletes on to the DiSE programme.

“It was great to bring so many divers together, allowing those from across the pathway the opportunity to experience elements of the programme which they can take away and use at their home training environment.

“It’s the first time we’ve opened up some of the DiSE expertise to those that aren’t on the programme so as much as we’re supporting the selected athletes we’re hoping to help develop athletes from across each of the national squads too.

“We have a number of exciting workshops planned and each of those selected have been allocated an experienced Swim England DiSE Assessor to support them every step of the way.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity and we can’t wait to watch them grow both as athletes and people throughout the next two years.”
