New training opportunity launched in national diving judge course

During 2023 Swim England is excited to be hosting a number of training opportunities for volunteers and members which will see them progressing in their journey of becoming a diving judge.

The recognised national governing body will be delivering Judge 1 and 2 courses in partnership with the Swim England Diving Leadership Group and Scottish Swimming.

The Judge 1 courses, held virtually throughout 2023 are aimed at any Swim England members who wish to gain an initial understanding of Diving FINA Rules and apply this within their club and regional events organised by the region.

The Judge 2 course, later in the year, offers a face to face element and allows experienced Judge 1s to progress to Judging at National events and gives an understanding of the role of the referee.

Led by Sarah Barrow, an Olympic diver, current FINA diving judge, and the technical officials lead for the Swim England Diving Leadership Group, the courses are delivered by an experienced team bringing a mix of international experience and knowledge to volunteers who are starting on their judging journey.

Sarah said: “Technical officials and judges make up a key part of our sport and are integral to competition.”

Lottie Thompson, chair of the Swim England Diving Leadership Group said: “We fully recognise the importance of our judges to the competition pathway. Our group is focused on supporting club and volunteering development.”

The Judge 1 course is open to current Swim England members aged 16 and over who will be sent a number of resources to complete prior to attending the course.
