Disabled Swimming Teacher Recruitment Academy in Manchester

As part of the Para Swimming World Championship legacy in Manchester, we are launching a swimming teacher recruitment academy with a specific focus on increasing the number of disabled people in teaching.

We are committed to breaking down barriers and empowering disabled people and those with long term health conditions to receive training to become qualified swimming teachers for £85, compared to the usual training cost of over £1000.

We believe that everyone should have equal opportunities to excel and make a difference in the world of swimming teaching. We recognise the value of lived experience that disabled teachers can bring to the poolside.

How does the academy work?

As a participant in our Academy, you will receive fully-funded training which includes:

• SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification
• SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualification
• Institute of Swimming Membership which includes over £100 worth of free e-learning.
• Practical volunteer placement
• Mentor to support the placement

Teaching hours will generally be weekdays evenings, and weekends. Times will vary by site and there may be an opportunity for additional school/daytime hours.

Once qualified successful trainees will be employed as paid swimming teachers on a casual or part-time basis.
