HCMSMG and Swim England issue statement on British Championship entries

The Home Countries Masters Swimming Management Group (HCMSMG) and Swim England as the host nation have issued an apology recognising that a number of Masters swimmers were left disappointed following the opening of Phase 2 of entries for the British Masters Championships.

Swim England and the HCMSMG understand that swimmers were inconvenienced by the delayed opening of the entries and that some also missed out on the opportunity to enter due to full capacity being reached in specific events.

To address this, and having considered options, event specific waiting lists have been set up for the swimmers who were unsuccessful in gaining an entry into the Championships.

Swim England is offering a refund of entry fees (per individual event withdrawal or a full Championships withdrawal) to those swimmers who have been successful in gaining entry to the competition but whose circumstances may have changed.

These withdrawal requests must be received by 12 noon on Wednesday 3 May and do not have to be made on medical grounds. Subject to spaces being vacated per given event, spaces will be offered to those on the event specific waiting lists, subject to availability and on a first-come, first-served basis.

A statement from the HCMSMG and Swim England reads…

“The Home Countries Masters Swimming Management Group and Swim England as the host nation would like to apologise to the Masters swimmers who have been inconvenienced or missed out on entering their chosen events. As a result, we’ve introduced this waiting list approach to maximise the opportunity for people to enter.”

Post event, the Group and Swim England will review all aspects of the Championships format, conditions and delivery, and ensure a full report with learning outcomes is provided to the next Host Nation.

You can find more details about either withdrawing from the event or signing up to the waiting list here.

Those swimmers on the waiting list will find out after Wednesday 3 May if they have been successful in gaining a place.
