Qualifying times and schedule released for British Masters Championships

The schedule and qualifying times for the 2023 British Masters Championships have been released ahead of the event in Sheffield.

The annual championship’s return to Ponds Forge International Pool for the first time in seven years next summer after the pool missed out on hosting the event in 2020 due to the pandemic.

The competition takes place in a long course 50m pool with Swim England hosting on a bi-annual basis as the competition rotates between each of the Home Nations.

Ponds Forge last hosted the competition in 2016, with Plymouth’s Life Centre staging the last running of the event in England back in 2018.

Next year’s competition will get underway on the morning of the 2 June with the 800m event and ending with the exciting 4x50m Medley Relay on June 4.

Three sessions will take place on Friday and Saturday, one in each of the morning, afternoon and evening with just a morning and afternoon session on the final day of racing.

Clubs will also have the chance to win the Cupar Trophy at the event which is awarded to the best performing club at the competition.

‘The best of Masters swimming’

 More than 50 new records were set at this year’s British Masters Championships in Aberdeen.

The event, hosted by Scottish Swimming, saw seven new world records set as well as 15 new European records too.

And ahead of next year’s showcase event, Nicola Latty Chair of the Home Countries Masters Swimming Working Group, spoke about her excitement about the event.

She said: “We’re excited to be releasing the qualifying times and schedule for next year’s British Masters Championships.

“This event is expected to show the best of masters swimming and it’s special to return to Sheffield for the competition in June.

“Each year the competition gets stronger and stronger as our incredible community continues to grow, I’m looking forward to the event and can’t wait to feel the atmosphere around poolside.”
