British men win eight golds on third day of London 2016

Great Britain’s men won another eight golds on the third day of the Masters swimming at the London 2016 European Aquatics Championships.

Hatfield’s Chris Dunn won his third gold in as many days in the 200m Freestyle while the 200m Butterfly was the most profitable event for the Brits, with four home golds across the age groups.

Having won silver medals on the opening two days in London, Otter’s Dave Warren went one better in the 200m Fly, winning European gold with a British record 2:16.44 in the 45-49 Years age group.

Camp Hill Edwardians’ Stephen Nash also clocked a new British marker as he won gold in the 60-64 Years age group, stopping the clock on 2:42.80.

Redditch swimmer Paul Wilkes won his second gold in two days in the 30-34 Years age group after a 2:10.45 while Eastbourne’s David Cumming won gold in 3:48.00 and Brighton Dolphins’ Michael Read followed him home for bronze in 4:29.76 in the 75-79 Years age group.

Burrell sets British record for backstroke gold

Spencer’s Roger Burrell set a British record 48.10 to win his first individual medal of the Championships with 50m Back gold in the 85-89 Years age group.

Birmingham’s Arthur Lowe was also on British record-breaking for with a 44.68 effort for silver in the 80-84 Years age group while Spencer’s Greg Kahn set a British record 29.00 for 45-49 Years silver.

Fareham Nomads swimmer John Molyneaux was the only other Brit to touch first in the 50m Back, winning the 25-29 Years age group with a 27.84 effort.

Another two British records fell in the 100m Breast as Guildford City pair David Bryant and Mike Hodgson won bronze medals in their respective age groups.

Bryant clocked 1:14.68 to take more than two seconds off his own marker in the 55-59 Years age group while Hodgson set a new record of 1:08.19 in the 45-49 Years age group.

Kenilworth’s Robert Robson clocked 1:09.53 for 40-44 Years silver while City of Southampton’s Chris Jones was the only other British silver medallist after a 1:06.01 effort in the 35-39 Years age group.

Dunn clocked 5:12.08 for 400m Freestyle gold in the 70-74 Years age group, adding to his titles in the 800m and 200m Freestyle on the opening two days in London.

The only other British gold medallist in the 400m Free was Bridgend’s Craig Thomas, touching in 4:09.83 in the 25-29 Years age group with Newcastle Swim Team’s William Jolly joining him on the podium with bronze on 4:19.14.
